New Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Ca(II) complexes of sodium 4,4-(((((1E, 1E)-((4,6-dihydroxy-1,3-phenylene) bis (ethan-1-y1-1-ylidene)) bis (azanylyidene)) bis (ethan-2,1-diyl)) bis (azanediyl)) bis (carbonyl)) diphenolate were prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-Vis spectra, Magnetic moments, Conductivity, 1H-NMR and Mass spectra, Thermal analyses (DTA and TGA) and ESR measurements. The analytical and IR data showed that, the ligand behaves as neutral tetradentate. Molar conductivity in DMF indicate that, the complexes are non-electrolytes. ESR spectra of solid Cu(II) complexes at room temperature show axial type (dx2-y2) with covalent bond character in an octahedral environment. However, Co(II) and Mn(II) complexes showed isotropic type. Ligand and some of its complexes showed inhibitory activity against breast cancer (MCF-7 cell line) compared with standard drug (azathioprine).

Multinodular goiter is a common disease whose prevalence increases in subsaharan Africa. Compressive goiter, heart failure (HF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are both common causes of breathlessness. Clinical presentation of those diseases can be very similar, but the treatment and prognostic implications are very different. In the evidence of compressive goiter, making diagnosis of the coexisting HF and COPD can be difficult especialy in a developing country. This case discusses the diagnostic challenge in a 26 years’ woman with compressive giant goiter, COPD and HF. We highlight the clinical relevance, and therapeutics aspects.

COVID-19 is a serious pandemic leading to a burden on the healthcare workers. This study is aimed at to assess the effect of Raj Nirwan Quath (RNQ) as a prophylactic measure among the health care workers in COVID hospital. For this study 1255 health care workers who performed their duties in the COVID hospital were recruited. The subjects were given RNQ during the duty days and during quarantine period, assessed after 14 days of duty in COVID-19 hospital for any symptoms. The subjects were also tested for RT-PCR for lab diagnosis. The results shown that 1250 health care workers who worked in COVID hospital have been reported to have no symptoms related to SARS-CoV-2. The lab reports of RT-PCR were negative among all of them. The RNQ can be recommended as a prophylactic measure to the health care workers of COVID-19 nationwide and globally.

Pneumarthrosis or vacuum phenomenon  is seen in many joints where excessive movement is there as a part of degenerative process. This causes a lot of potential confusion in the diagnosis and further to study the details of joint anatomy. The vacuum phenomenon of glenohumeral joint (GJVP) is as a result of normal physiological conditions where the gas collects in the joint. This is more common in intervertebral discs as compared to other locations. These are noticed as incidental findings in asymptomatic patients but may be noticed in other conditions associated with discogenic pain. We present 37-yr male with chronic kidney disease CKD) who underwent routine high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) of chest for evaluation of breathlessness. Though there was no complaint of either of the shoulder joint, but bilateral intraarticular gas was present. These findings were without any underlying degenerative changes or any infective joint pathology. Bilateral GJVP was noticed as incidental finding and was considered to be due to the disturbed underlying physiology because of long standing renal ailment. No treatment was advocated in this case except the permitted physiotherapy.

Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrinopathy in women of reproductive age, resulting from insulin resistance and the compensatory hyperinsulinemia. This results in adverse effect on multiple organ systems and may result in alteration in serum lipids, anovulation, abnormal uterine bleeding and infertility. It is the primary cause of infertility nowadays. In Ayurveda all gynecological disorders are explained under Yonivyapadas. Based on the principles PCOS can be diagnosed and treated as well. Following is a case study of a female having infertility due to PCOS. Her reports showed PCOS with unovulatory cycles. She was treated with different Ayurveda treatment modalities like Shodhana and Shamana.  The results revealed that, infertility due to PCOS can be cured successfully by using this Ayurveda treatment.

Background: Maternal age at delivery and cesarean section rates are increasing. In older women, the decision on delivery mode may be influenced by a reported increased risk of surgical interventions during labor and complications with increasing maternal age. The purpose of this study was to determine the Incidence of Cesarean Section in elderly gravida which would help us subsequently, in delineating the management of elderly gravid. Material and Methods: This prospective study was carried out in The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Kamla Nehru State Hospital for Mother and Child, Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla for one year period from 1st July 2018 to 30th June 2019. All participants were divided into two groups Group 1 (Study Group) had consisted of all pregnant women with age 35 years or more. While Group 2(Control Group) consisted of every pregnant woman with age ≥20 to ˂35 years, who gets enrolled in the labor room admission register next to a case, was taken as a control. Comparative data of the two groups was subjected to statistical analysis. Results: There were 6922 deliveries out of which 415 subjects were >35 years of age, the incidence was 6.00%. Maximum number of subjects (84.10%) were in the age between 35-39 years. In the Study Group out of 415 subjects, 87 had early pregnancy loss. Out of remaining 328 subjects, 28.96% landed in caesarean section. 16.16% had emergency LSCS, while 12.80% had elective LSCS. In Control Group out of 415 subjects, 21 had early pregnancy loss. Out of remaining 394 subjects, 16.75% had caesarean section. 14.47% had emergency LSCS and 2.28% had elective LSCS. The common reasons for CS in study groups were Acute fetal distress, Breech, First twin breech, APH (Placenta praevia/ abruption), Previous LSCS with poor Bishop score & IUGR while in control groups reasons were Acute fetal distress, Breech, APH (Placenta praevia/ abruption), Failure of induction & Non-progress of labor. Conclusion: We found an increase in operative deliveries with increasing maternal age. The common reasons for CS were Acute fetal distress, Breech, First twin breech, APH, Previous LSCS with poor Bishop score, IUGR, Failure of induction & Non-progress of labor.

Malignant melanoma (MM) of oral cavity is a rare tumor with incidence ranging from o.2-8% of all melanomas. It is a potentially aggressive tumor of melanocytic origin with high tendency to metastasize. Due to its rarity, asymptomatic presentation, high suspicion for diagnosis and a lack of defined treatment strategies, make it a poor prognostic tumor. Here we are reporting a rare case of oral malignant melanoma in a 63 yr old male undergoing treatment with chemotherapy at our centre.
