Background: Elbow pain, a pervasive musculoskeletal issue, significantly impacts daily activities and quality of life. The unique challenges posed by regional factors in Himachal Pradesh necessitate a targeted exploration of awareness and knowledge regarding Preventive Factors and Practices for elbow Pain. This study addresses the gap in existing literature by examining the regional implications of elbow pain and its preventive measures in Himachal Pradesh. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted from July 2023 to October 2023 in Himachal Pradesh. The study included 400 adults residing in urban and rural areas, employing a descriptive research approach. A Google Form questionnaire, comprising socio-demographic and 20 knowledge-related questions, was utilized. Data analysis employed Epi Info V7 Software, and ethical considerations ensured participant confidentiality. Results: Participants demonstrated varied levels of awareness, with 59.75% recognizing common elbow conditions. Knowledge on ergonomics (54.5%) and nutrition's impact (31.5%) revealed disparities. While 54.25% were aware of the link between physical fitness and reduced elbow pain risk, only 7.75% attended educational programs. Analysis categorized knowledge into Very Good (25.25%), Good (28%), Fair (30%), and Poor (16.75%) groups. Conclusion: The study unveils regional nuances in awareness and knowledge concerning elbow pain in Himachal Pradesh. Discrepancies emphasize the need for targeted, culturally sensitive interventions. A comprehensive national strategy is essential for promoting musculoskeletal health and preventing elbow pain across diverse Indian populations.
Elbow pain, a prevalent musculoskeletal concern, poses a substantial burden on individuals' daily activities and quality of life. The elbow joint, essential for a myriad of movements such as lifting, gripping, and performing routine tasks, is susceptible to conditions like tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, and other musculoskeletal disorders. Repetitive motions, overuse, and poor ergonomics contribute to the development of elbow pain, making it imperative to explore the awareness and knowledge of preventive factors and practices specific to this region. This study focuses on evaluating the awareness and knowledge among the general public of Himachal Pradesh regarding preventive measures and practices for elbow pain [1-3].
Understanding the unique challenges and regional factors that may influence the prevalence and awareness of elbow pain in Himachal Pradesh is crucial. The topography, lifestyle, and occupational patterns in this region may contribute to distinct risk factors for elbow pain that require targeted preventive strategies. By examining the current state of knowledge among Himachal Pradesh residents, this research aims to bridge the gap in existing literature and contribute valuable insights for developing region-specific public health interventions [4-6].
Furthermore, the impact of elbow pain extends beyond individual suffering, affecting overall healthcare costs and productivity. Musculoskeletal disorders, including those related to the elbow, pose a significant economic burden globally. Investigating the awareness levels and preventive practices in Himachal Pradesh can potentially lead to the formulation of cost-effective and culturally tailored interventions. As the research progresses, a comprehensive understanding of the preventive factors and practices associated with elbow pain in this region will be essential for informing public health policies and promoting musculoskeletal well-being.
Objectives of the Study
To evaluate the awareness and knowledge regarding Preventive Factors and Practices followed in case of elbow Pain among general public of Himachal Pradesh.

The study's target population encompassed all adults aged 18 and above who had been residents of Himachal Pradesh for a minimum of 12 months
Sample Size
A robust sample size of 400 adults was determined using a 95% confidence level, an estimated knowledge level of 50% regarding Preventive Factors and Practices for elbow Pain, a precise 5% absolute error margin, and a conservative 5% non-response rate.
Study Tool
A google form questionnaire consisting of questions regarding socio-demography and knowledge regarding Preventive Factors and Practices for elbow Pain was created. The questionnaire was initially pre-tested on a small number of participants to identify any difficulty in understanding by the respondents.

Demographic Data Survey Instrument
The demographic form elicited information on participants’ background: age, marital status, religion, employment, education and many more.
Questionnaire
The questionnaire contains 20 structured knowledge related questions regarding Preventive Factors and Practices for elbow Pain. One mark was given for each correct answer and zero for incorrect answer. The maximum score was 20 and minimum score was zero.
Scoring was done on the basis of marks as >80% (16-20) = very good,60-79% (12-15) = Good,41-59% (8-11) = Fair, <40% (< 8) = poor

Data Collection
Data was collected under the guidance of supervisors. The google form questionnaire was circulated among the residents of Himachal Pradesh for responses using online modes like e-mail and social media platforms like Whatsapp groups, Facebook, Instagram and Linkedin till the 400 responses were collected.
Data Analysis
Data was collected and entered in Microsoft excel spread sheet, cleaned for errors and analyzed with Epi Info V7 Software with appropriate statistical test in terms of frequencies and percentage.
Ethical Considerations
Participants confidentiality and anonymity were maintained.
In the present study 25.25% (101) participants had very good knowledge (16-20 marks) towards Preventive Factors and Practices for elbow Pain, 28% (112) had good knowledge (12-15 marks), 30% (120) had fair knowledge (8-11 marks) and 16.75% (67) having poor knowledge (<8 marks) (Table 1).

The goal of the current study was to assess the knowledge regarding Preventive Factors and Practices for elbow Pain among general public of Himachal Pradesh through a non-experimental descriptive survey. A total of 400 respondents including 207 (51.75%) were from urban area and 193 (48.25%) were from rural area were participated in the study (Table 2).

The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the awareness and knowledge levels of the general public in Himachal Pradesh regarding Preventive Factors and Practices for elbow Pain. Given the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders, especially those affecting the elbow, understanding the public's awareness is crucial for developing targeted preventive strategies. To contextualize these findings, we compare them with existing Indian studies on musculoskeletal health awareness.
The observed awareness level regarding common conditions related to elbow pain (59.75%) aligns with the findings of a study conducted by Sharma et al. [5], which reported similar levels of awareness among a diverse population in northern India. This suggests a consistent need for public education on common elbow conditions across different regions.
In contrast, the percentage of participants recognizing the impact of nutrition and hydration on musculoskeletal health (31.5%) is notably lower. A study by Kapoor et al. [6] in a southern Indian population found a higher awareness level regarding the influence of dietary factors on musculoskeletal health. This discrepancy emphasizes the importance of region-specific interventions tailored to the dietary patterns and cultural contexts of the population.
Similarly, the relatively low attendance at educational workshops or programs focused on musculoskeletal health and the prevention of elbow pain (7.75%) is a point of concern. A study by Reddy et al. [7] conducted in western India found higher participation rates in musculoskeletal health programs, indicating potential regional variations in program engagement. This suggests the need for targeted health promotion campaigns that consider regional preferences and factors influencing participation.
The comparison with studies by Gupta et al. [8] and Patel et al. [9] reveals similar trends in awareness levels regarding the importance of rest and recovery to prevent overuse injuries in the elbow. However, disparities in knowledge regarding the impact of ergonomics and proper lifting techniques may be attributed to regional variations in occupational patterns and lifestyle practices.
While this study contributes valuable insights specific to Himachal Pradesh, regional differences in musculoskeletal health awareness across India highlight the necessity for targeted and culturally sensitive interventions. The amalgamation of findings from various studies emphasizes the need for a comprehensive national strategy to promote musculoskeletal health and prevent elbow pain.
Limitations
The study's limitations, including its cross-sectional design and reliance on self-reported data, are consistent with those found in the referenced Indian studies. Future research could explore the effectiveness of region-specific interventions and assess changes in awareness over time through longitudinal studies.
In conclusion, this study provides a comprehensive examination of the awareness and knowledge levels pertaining to Preventive Factors and Practices for elbow Pain among the general public in Himachal Pradesh. The findings underscore a consistent need for targeted public education initiatives across diverse regions, as evidenced by comparable awareness levels regarding common elbow conditions. However, regional disparities in awareness, particularly concerning dietary influences and participation in educational programs, highlight the imperative for culturally tailored interventions. The amalgamation of insights from various Indian studies emphasizes the necessity of a nuanced and region-specific approach to musculoskeletal health promotion. Addressing these findings collectively is crucial for formulating effective, inclusive public health strategies that promote musculoskeletal well-being and prevent elbow pain in the diverse population of India.
