A miscarriage is not likely after week 12 or before week 24 (late miscarriage). In twin pregnancies, the cause of a late miscarriage is either an abnormal twin growth, twin transfusion syndrome or a TTTS foetal transfusion. This condition occurs when one identical twin sharing the same placenta receives a lot of blood in the womb, while the other receives too little, which affects its growth and development. Unfortunately, one baby dies while the other continues to grow for the remainder of the pregnancy.
