Public awareness and knowledge regarding this condition play a pivotal role in achieving early diagnosis and treatment. This study assessed the awareness and knowledge of acute appendicitis among residents of Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 400 adults using a structured questionnaire encompassing socio-demographic data and 20 knowledge-related questions about acute appendicitis. Data were collected through online modes and analyzed using Epi Info V7 Software. Results: The study revealed substantial knowledge gaps among the participants. While 72.25% correctly defined acute appendicitis and 63.5% identified its location, only 48% recognized the need for treatment as acute appendicitis does not resolve spontaneously. Moreover, merely 41% were aware of the potential complications of untreated appendicitis. A significant proportion (30.75%) erroneously believed that acute appendicitis does not affect individuals of all ages. Conclusion: The findings underscore a considerable lack of awareness and knowledge regarding acute appendicitis among the general population in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Bridging these knowledge gaps is essential to facilitate early diagnosis and timely medical intervention, ultimately leading to improved health outcomes and reduced complications associated with this surgical emergency.
</article-meta></front><body /><back /></article>
