Shimla, a region nestled in the Himalayan foothills of India, relies heavily on agriculture, making food safety a critical issue. Understanding the awareness and knowledge of foodborne illnesses among Shimla's residents is essential for public health. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in District Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, from April to June 2023, involving 400 adults. A questionnaire assessed their knowledge of foodborne illnesses, safe food handling, and related topics. Data were analyzed using Epi Info V7 Software. Results: The study revealed that while Shimla's population displayed reasonable awareness of food safety practices, knowledge gaps existed. Approximately 67% understood foodborne diseases, and 71% recognized the importance of safe food handling and storage. However, only 26.25% could name common pathogens responsible for foodborne diseases. Awareness of food safety regulations (25.75%) and specific diseases (46.75%) was relatively lower. Conclusion: Shimla's residents exhibit a foundational understanding of food safety, but targeted education is needed to address knowledge gaps. Enhancing food safety awareness not only benefits the local population but also contributes to global efforts in reducing foodborne illnesses.&amp;nbsp;</abstract></article-meta></front><body /><back /></article>
