Ronnell DelaRosa DNMDean, Graduate School, Bataan Peninsula State University, PhilippinesBackground: In caring for patients with COVID-19 cases, nurses may opt not to go if they wanted to but they showed a great passion for dealing with them. Their dedication and acceptance of their call of duty as they pledged to Florence Nightingale had placed them at risks and threatened despite, they are overworked. Their role is very vital in promoting the patient’s recovery and healing. Materials and Methods: Understanding the language of caring among Bataeño nurses in the pandemic crisis was described through the phenomenological approach of Martin Heidegger argued that consciousness is perceived with transparency and not concealed by itself wherein nurses expressed their experiences in their plight. Twenty-one nurses were recruited through purposive sampling. Coupled with these factors are issues within the nursing profession that impact patient cares in amidst of COVID-19: a national nursing shortage, nurses prepared at different educational levels, utilization of nursing labor and exceeding hour of shifts. Results: As a result, there is little continuity in care planning and delivery in the hospital setting despite the amidst of outbreak among Bataeño Nurses. These conditions, plus an aging population contribute to creating what has been termed “the new normal” of health care; a state where patient safety and outcomes, care provider satisfaction and relationships between nurses, patients and other health care providers are threatened. Their level of commitment, dedication and love to work are the reasons for what makes them stay in the new normal in the nursing profession. Conclusion: Nurses deliver an understanding of their language of caring across the continuum of care to make compassion and powerfully effective communication permeate all interactions with patients, families and coworkers. Further training on crisis management may be recommended.
