First identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, the disease rapidly spread across the globe, resulting in a worldwide pandemic. COVID-19 primarily affects the respiratory system, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. While most infected individuals recover without special treatment, older adults and people with underlying medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disorders, and cancer are at a higher risk of developing serious complications. The virus is mainly transmitted through respiratory droplets and airborne particles released during coughing, sneezing, or talking. Diagnosis is commonly performed using real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing. Management of the disease focuses on symptomatic and supportive care, isolation, and preventive measures to limit transmission.
